Owner and Chief Winemaker at Ampelostrates

ANTONIS MAROUDAS

“You have to stick with the island’s values and become one with it.”

It takes a bone-shaking drive down a rocky mountain road to reach Ampelostrates, but it’s definitely worth it. Literally meaning the ‘wine road’, this family run farm, vineyard and restaurant is a quiet slice of traditional Greek-life nestled high in Zakynthos’ mountains. The food is excellent and the wine is exceptional, but it’s the warm welcome you get from owners that really makes the visit worthwhile. Alongside making wine, running a taverna and leading horse treks through their vineyards, Antonis writes poetry and his wife Mika sells her remarkable paintings of the island.
